2018 Summer Mission Experience
We are just beginning to formulate plans for our upcoming mission trip. Here's some of what we can share at this point.
WHEN: We are looking at a window in the early part of June. Possibly June 10 - 18, 2018.
WHERE: Since we will be working with Maranatha Volunteers, they will be investigating possible sites for us. They have a number of projects within Brazil over the next year. We as get closer to the date, we will know more about the specific location.
COSTS: The cost for the mission trip will be close to $20,000. This cost will include the building, insurance for our group, in-country transportation, food, lodging and other miscellaneous expenses. We plan to raise these funds as a church. We will be asking all missionaries to cover their own airfare to and from Brazil. We expect that amount to be somewhere around $750 - $1000 per person.
PASSPORTS: Every traveller will need a valid passport in order to travel to Brazil. If you know you will be going with us, you might as well start that process.
FOOD: Once we are in country, we will be providing all meals for the group. Most likely all prepared meal will be vegetarian but not vegan. If you have unusual dietary requirements, you will need to make your own arrangements.
LODGING: I believe in working hard, but then having a nice place to go home at the end of the day. We will try to get accommodations at a motel that will have decent amenities. It is possible that we will be asking singles to share a room with another person.
DISCLAIMER: We are going to build a church building. When we arrive, the foundation will be poured and the steel will be erected. The construction is concrete block. While this is not extremely difficult work, it is hard work. We will be sifting sand, mixing concrete, moving building materials and laying block. All volunteers will be expected to participate daily at the construction site. THIS IS NOT A SIGHTSEEING VACATION. This will be a working trip.
During the days, we will have a group conduct a Vacation Bible School for the village/neighborhood children for a few hours. VBS workers will be expected to also work at the construction site when not engaged in the VBS program.
Our plan will be to arrive Sunday and start work on Monday morning. God willing, we will finish our work on Friday and worship with the congregation on Sabbath. We will find something to do nearby on Sabbath afternoon. Sunday will be a free day for us to do something fun before we travel back to the US on Monday.
We will post more information as it becomes available. If you are interested in joining us for this trip, please sign up by clicking on the link below.
